In an article published by the Harvard Business Review (“Job Matching for Better Sales Performance,” Vol.58, No. 5)
researchers reported that Job Matching is by far the most reliable predictor of effectiveness on the job.
To arrive at this conclusion, the researchers followed 360,000 people in fourteen industries over a twenty-year period
and found that there was no relationship between performance on the job and educational qualifications, age, gender, race and experience or any of the many other criteria used to select people for a job. What they did find was that when people were ‘matched’ to jobs they were capable of doing, were motivated to do, in an environment that suited their personality and behavior, then they were successful.
